Post-doctoral Researcher in Experimental Petrology/High-T Geochemistry
The Department of Earth, Environmental and Planetary Sciences at Rice University is seeking a post-doctoral researcher in the high pressure-temperature experimental petrology-geochemistry research group. The exact research topic is somewhat flexible but would likely center around one or more aspects of the roles and fates of volatiles and fluids or other geochemical proxies in Earth and planetary or exoplanetary processes (e.g., http://cleverplanets.org/). The facilities in the ExPeRT (https://www.dasgupta.rice.edu/) include an 1100-ton Walker-style multi-anvil device, three end-loaded piston cylinder devices, a gas mixing furnace, and a newly installed cold seal apparatus, plus access to various analytical facilities. Prior experience with high-pressure multi-anvil apparatus and/or cold-seal device would be considered a plus. Although the successful candidate is anticipated to adopt experimental approach, modeling approaches on relevant problems will also be considered. Applications submitted by August 21, 2023 are ensured full consideration. The start date is flexible. The compensation will commensurate with experience. The position is expected to be for 2-3 years but will be renewed annually based on performance and the availability of funding.
The successful candidate must have earned a Ph.D. degree, pursuing research in relevant fields of Earth and planetary sciences. Applicants will be required to submit the following, as a single pdf: (1) cover letter; (2) curriculum vitae; (3) statement of research interest, which should include prior research experience and technical ability; (4) the names, affiliations, and email addresses of three professional references who are familiar with research and technical experience of the candidate. Details about the department and other facilities can be found at https://eeps.rice.edu/research/facilities/experimental-petrology-facilities. Interested candidates should contact Rajdeep Dasgupta (Rajdeep.Dasgupta@rice.edu) for more information and/or to send in the application materials.
